More Gardens

I went to Chiswick Grounds to find it was under renovations. Nonetheless it was open to the public so I went roaming around.  I met a lovely lady who took me to the little creek to feed the swans.  I didn't go into the house (I'm not sure if it was actually open).  The gardens were obviously formal at one time full of huge boxwoods and statues.

For sheer beauty Hampton Court would be my favorite gardens.  They have a lot of colorful beds and probably the best rose garden I have ever seen.  I manuevered the maze which was full of children.  It was drizzling on and off all day but the overcast day made taking pictures easy.  The small cafeteria on the grounds was adequate and not very expensive compared to other places I lunched at during my stay.

Kyoto Garden is a Japanese Garden complete with a waterfall which drops into a small lake.  There were people sitting on benches reading and eating their lunch.  Although there were signs saying it was a meditation garden, parents still allowed their kids to run around.  It was very lovely.  A groundskeeper quietly was cutting around a statue with what appeared to be a pair of scissors.

I visited Meanwhile Gardens which is a community outreach program. Not only do their clients work in the gardens (which include lots of natives) but there is a "pit" for skateboarding and a daycare.  It's not in the best of neighborhoods but I suppose expensive neighborhoods have no need for outreach programs.  The day I was there a group of people were practicing on steel drums.
