ornaments
christmas and easter!!!
I put up several trees during the Christmas season. My favorite one is our homemade tree. Either myself, my mother, our kids or friends have made every ornament on the tree. My kids went through a period of being embarressed by the tree since I kept every ornament they ever made and some were made when they were very young. I think they are at least more tolerant of it as adults even if it's not their favorite.
I've made blown glass ornaments when I took a class with a good friend. The kids and I have painted, stuffed and other wise decorated dozens of balls, made birdhouses, painted small sculptures, sculpted with filo clay and the list goes on. Friends have contributed crocheted stockings and snowflakes, 'salt dough' ornaments, minature handmade baskets, and beaded angels to name a few. My mother has crocheted bells and made several sets of felt ornaments.I made this fairy using a dried okra pod, a large wooden bead, feather butterfly wings, yarn and acorns. This was the very first one I made. I had seen one months prior to making this one but the only thing I remembered was that it used an okra pod. I enjoyed making them and actually sold a few at my garden club's plant sale.
These are a small sampling of felt ornaments my mother has made for us. We even had one of them (a care bear ornament) featured in our "Night before Christmas" home movie. Featured in this picture is a portion of the Wizard of Oz collection, a snow kid, a B. Potter and a couple of crocheted bells. There is a ball that I think was decorated by Devon and a bead candy cane that may have been an Aaron contribution.
But not only do we make Christmas decoratations and ornaments, we also go all out for Easter. I have a white tree complete with lights and the kids have decorated dozens of eggs that I blew - lots of scrabbled eggs around Easter every year. I'll try and remember to take a couple of pictures of our Easter ornaments next year.
The lime (or maybe it's a lemon) is studded with cloves. It was given to me by Toya from my garden club (it was a craft we were all doing). I took it home, embellished it and it now hangs proudly (and fragrantly I might add) on my homemade tree.
