Stained glass
For Christmas one year, I put down stained glass classes on my wish list - but with a catch. Richard my husband had to take the class with me. Being the wonderful husband that he is, he agreed and we took beginner's stained glass.
We bought all the equipment but haven't done much with it since classes. This is the panel I made and it currently hangs in our dining room window. The things I have to learn the hard way though. I love it when the sun is shining through it. I used different types of textures and vivid colors, but the colors are too dark on a cloudy day. Oh well, live and learn.
I have actually designed a dogwood room divider (hey I started small see the suncatcher LOL) but have never made the time to make it happen. Cutting glass is not as easy as it looks but I'm sure if I picked it up again and practiced, practiced, practiced... I could make something again.
This is Richard's panel which turned out fantastic. The center has a wonderful milky swirl in the glass that really makes this piece special. One of these days, I'd like to try this pattern myself and perhaps make a set of four to represent the seasons.... yea, yea, practice, practice, practice.
I don't think we'll ever take classes again but it was fun while we did it. There were only 6 or 7 of us in class which gave the teacher time to help each of us as we needed it. This is by no means a cheap hobby but it definitely is rewarding. I think it'll just take a friend wanting to get involved with it to get my spirits going on it again.
These were actually the first thing we made. I still have three of them in my gardens but they have taken a beating over the years. I should work on some for our garden club plant sale. They are relatively easy to make and you can actually do some of the work while watching TV. Best of all it's a good way to use scraps of glass from larger projects.
