cross stitching
My first real hobby.
I made this cross-stitch with roses to hang in my dining room because it matched my china. It was enjoyable to work because I'm fond of both pinks and greens.
I learned to cross stitch from my ex-mother in law. She is danish and the very first piece I made was a typical Danish bellpull with a small bird sitting on a wheat shaft surrounded by poppies. I was bitten by the cross stitch bug big time. The only problem was I gave away almost everything I ever made. When I had limited income as a single parent - personalizing a cross-stitch made great inexpensive gifts.
The three girls flying kites was by far one of the most complicated patterns I completed. Although my girls look different then these girls - nonetheless the closeness of these girls reminds me of my daughters.
This is the last cross stitch I've done to date. I made it with full intent of keeping it. I love the shiny beads throughout this sampler. Framing this was difficult until I realized it didn't need a mat. I used a frame with a beaded edge instead. This very well may be the last one I do since I'm finding it harder and harder to do close up work - but who knows, I have a great pattern for a townhouse with a tree in the foreground that I'd love to finish one day.
