FOOD/ENTERTAINING
I
love entertaining!! Any event is an event to drag out the
silver,
china and crystal. Why have the stuff if you're not
going
to use it anyway? Anyone who knows me well also knows I have
a
thing for cloth tableclothes. I HATE HATE HATE plastic ones.
I'm so nutty about tableclothes I have several still in the
original packaging ... they were too good a deal to pass up.
From baby showers to tea parties to garden club meetings -- I
enjoy it all. I particularly enjoy coming up with
"theme"
foods. When a dragonfly expert spoke to our garden club I
made dragonfly sugar cookies. For a Master Gardening class
regarding critters in our gardens, I made little cookie mice
(thanks Patti for the adorable idea!).
I have no problem
with taking shortcuts where possible making some recipes like London
Broil which only has two ingredients very easy.
I'm finding that I enjoy cooking more now that the kids are gone.
Without the rush of hurrying after work to get something on
the
table, I feel free to experiment... afterall, if it's a
diaster
it's only Richard and myself and we can "scrounge" if
necessary.
Richard is a great critic. He gently lets me know
his
honest opinion which helps me make things better. (Although I
still think granny apple makes the sausage stuffing - he rather have it
omitted)
FInally, there are a lot of cookie recipes... that's because my family
spends one weekend every December baking all kinds of cookies for
Christmas. We even had friends over one year for
cookies
and tea where the guests made their own cookies. Over the
years
some have been omitted and some have been added to our
"standard"
list. We also try to include one or two new ones.
My kids used to like store bought cookies better than homemade but I
think over time that has changed. The recipes I am including
are
ones my family and friends particularly like.
