Having such a large family makes it is hard to please all of the people all of the time. Like most people I take shortcuts where possible.  When making ribs I use store bought sauce.  However, mushrooms are so easy and fast to cook that buying canned ones just doesn't do the trick for me.   Perhaps my biggest "secret" when cooking is chicken broth.  If a recipe calls for water I often substitute broth (just keep in mind this also addes salt).
