KEY WEST
I loved Key West -- I can see why people move
there. It was beautiful! We started off by taking a tour
tram and learning about the island It was quite informative.
Afterwards we found a tea shop and after enjoying a cup of tea at
a sidewalk table we started roaming around. We walked past Ernest
Hemingway's house and saw a couple of the six-toed cats that Key West
is famous for.
We happened across a butterfly conservatory that had just opened up recently. You can read more about the conservatory at http://bettytruax.com/PublicGardens/keywest03.html
BELIZE CITY
We decided to take the Cave
Tubing and Rain Forest Exploration excursion. Surprisingly, I did
okay on this even though I have a fear of water and can't swim.
For most of the trip, I was so amazed by what I was seeing that I
didn't even remember to be scared. Frankly, in most parts of the
river were shallow enough that I would have been able touch the bottom.
Because we were cave tubing I did not bring my camera so the only picture I got of Belize is the one to the left.
COZUMEL, MEXICO
We spent the day shopping in
Cozumel. We didn't find much to buy but did enjoy the colorful
buildings very much. This island was very important in Mayan
culture. Mayan women made dangerous treks to this scared place
before getting married.
PROGRESO
If we hadn't already visited
Mayan ruins on another cruise Chichen-itza would have made my top pick
excursion list. We nicknamed this excursion "chicken pizza" and
we definately had a super day roaming around this site. We had an
amazing tour guide who was very knowledgeable. What amazed me the
most was the total accessability of the ruins. Not only did we
climb steep stairs of a temple, we were actually able to sit on a
wonderful serpintine like creature. The site is so large that we
actually were alone at one point despite the large cruise ship groups
that were visiting at the same time. This visit to Mayan ruins
was a completely different experience from our first visit to Mayan
ruins on the first cruise we took. If I had to chose between them
Chichen-tiza would definately win hands down.
