    COMMON NAMES: Solomon's Seal

    PLANT TYPE: 
    Perennial
    NATIVE:  Native to North America, Northern Europe and Siberia
      HEIGHT:  One to three feet
      SEASON(S) of INTEREST:  Produces one to five small, bell-shaped flowers from April through June, and then bluish-black berries from August through October
      BLOOM/COLOR:  Flowers of some varities may be chartreuse, yellow, white or near-white
      WATER REQUIRMENT:  Well-drained, moist, loamy soil
      SUN REQUIREMENT:  Because it is native to wooded areas it prefers a shaded location.

      ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Solomon's Seal is a
      member of the Lily family.  It is fairly tough and will tolerate less than ideal conditions but if Solomon's Seal is in a good spot it will multiply very rapidly by creeping rhizomes.  If propagating by seed, seeds should be sown in autumn and will germinate in early spring.  Roots may also be divided and this is best done in fall but may be done at any time.
